Woodridge Jaycees
Care Package
Party

On Saturday August 28, 2004 The Woodridge Jaycees came together for a great Party. A Great time Had by All. A time for Food. A time for playing games. I time to say hello to your fellow Jaycees. Basically a time for The Woodridge Jaycees to meet and share in good company and a time for great fellowship. But this party was unique, because besides all the fun, it served a very important purpose. It's purpose was to collect items to make care packages to send to The Troops in Iraq. The Woodridge Jaycees Care Package Party was held at Woodridge Jaycee Tony's Home in Woodridge and was a supreme success. The Woodridge Jaycees take pride in being one of Woodridge's and Northern Illinois premier service organizations, helping the Community in many ways, with having both events for the community and Service Projects in The Community. The Woodridge Jaycees strongly support our Troops in Iraq and appreciate The Job They are doing. They want to say thank You and provide them with some vital necessities, such as Shampoo, Toothpaste, Deodorant, etc. Each member attending the party was required to bring at least one item from a list that was passed out to Woodridge Jaycee Member's. All these items that I mentioned including soap, tissue, and magazines were made into several care packages that will be mailed to Iraq and then distributed to our U.S. Troops fighting for our liberties and freedoms. We want to thank you for that. That is what The Woodridge Jaycees is all about giving back to the Community. Donating their time, effort, labor, vehicles, food, etc to provide the very best for the Community. For you would like to be active in your Community. If you would like to give back something to The Community then The Woodridge Jaycees might be for you. I want to mention that the Woodridge Jaycees are looking for a variety of people with a variety of talents. One of My talents is videotaping so as A Woodridge Jaycees I am creating this segment. Maybe your talent is cooking, or sewing, or baking, writing, or photography, whatever The Woodridge Jaycees would like you to use that talent to help The Community. The time and effort you put into the Woodridge Jaycees are up to you, you can come to The events and Service Projects you like. Chair as many or as few Events or projects as you like. While the more events and services projects you complete are very much welcomed, even doing one event a year is doing something. So if you can do something, anything the Woodridge Jaycees would be happy to have you. The Woodridge Jaycees  A place to build friendships and to build on your Community.

United States
Marine Corps
(Officially Authorized)
Featured On
Mike Kara
Presents

The United States Marine has stood strong as one of America's Military branches serving our Interests both at Home and Aboard. With The War in Iraq and the rebuilding of that Country, we need the Marine Corps now than ever.

The United States Marine Corps this November celebrates it's 229th  Birthday. The Marine Corps has been involved with all American Wars and Major Battles.

Being a Marine goes beyond just basic infantry. A Marine needs to be ready both physically and mentally. Today's Marine needs to be a Jack of all trades and dedicated to preserving the welfare and security of this great Country of ours -The Greatest Country in The whole Wide World, I might add. The Marine Corps goes beyond just brut force. Marines need to be trained in a variety of skills, with then choosing a specialty within The Marines. There are literally hundreds of jobs in the Marine Corps, all very important to The Corps itself. All who serve are Marines and will take on their Duty to God and Country.

The Title of U.S.M.C. is one of great Honor. A Marine is a true American Hero, already worthy of our respect, even before he is sent into battle. A Marine walking down the street should be respected, because he or she is fighting for your freedoms, even if one of those freedoms is to bash our fine President and the outstanding  job he is doing. A Marine is there for you, The American citizen. Marines have been very active throughout our nations wars, including planting The Flag on Iwo Jima During WWII.

My Dad proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 To 1971 and retired as a Sgt. Not a day goes by without My Dad sharing some of his memories about Proudly serving in the Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam and Japan.

When creating a segment on The Marine Corps where to begin. This small segment is just a taste of what The Marine has to offer. Offer Citizens looking for a fulfilling career and offer us , American Citizens the freedoms and liberties we enjoy.

Included in this segment are interviews by Real Marines. This segment is officially authorized by The Marine Corps and actually was done through their Public Relations Office out of The Chicago Recruiting Depot. No Michael Moore Crap Here. You learn about The Marines from The Marines with The Official Authorization and Support from The United States of America Marine Corps as a whole.
It is so exciting to work with such a great group of people. Actually doing a authorized segment on the Marine Corps is so much more rewarding than just doing a term paper report or a America Bashing Project such as Michael Moore Does. Just presenting a fun and interesting look at The Marines. One that could air today in 2004, just as well as 1904. The Marine Corps values and dedication to God and Country, never die and never will. What we now need to do, is to support our President and support our Troops. And just remember, the next time you try to put down George W. Bush, you can thank a Marine for giving you that right.

Coming Your Way in November 2004 on Mike Kara Presents, in Celebration of The Marine Corps Birthday.

Old Jail Museum
Crawfordsville, Indiana

Jail is not something people want to think about. Jail is definalty
not the Hilton ,nor a place any of us should wind up. But much history
and knowledge and be gained by learning about how Old Jails Functioned.
Jails are a rich part of American History, even though no one would right
to stay at a Jail. The Old Jail Museum located in Crawfordsville, Indiana
is an example of the rich history We can learn from a jail.

The Old Jail Museum was built in 1882. It was the first of seven rotary
jails constructed in the United States and is currently the only rotary
jail in operating condition.

The rotary cellblock consists of a two-tiered turntable divided into
pie-shaped wedges, with a total of 16 cells. The turntable is housed
within a stationary steel cage with one opening per story.

The jailer would simply rotate the mechanism to bring a particular
cell to the opening, and in this way, prisoners were put into and let
out of the cells. The turntable remained in operation until 1939.

The jail was used as the Montgomery County Jail until it closed in 1973
and became a museum in 1975, operated by the Montgomery County
Cultural Foundation. The museum exhibits items related to the history,
culture and art of Montgomery County as well as artifacts from the jail itself.

Darien Lions Club Candy Day

Comes To Mike Kara Presents......

The Darien Lions Club takes exceptional pride in being the top Candy Day collector in Illinois.  Through the generous contributions of motorists, local merchants, and other individuals, the Darien Lions Club raised $37,000.19 in 2002. Lion Jim Tikalsky, Chairman of Candy Day 2003 wants to continue in this tradition.  He hopes everyone will participate and enjoy collecting for a great cause. What is great about Candy Day, you can collect money to fight against the reasons people are blind and deaf all year long.  Also the money raised helps to make the lives of those who are blind and deaf a little easier and give them some hope. This is the second segment I have done on the Darien Lions for Mike Kara Presents. We filmed their Pancake Breakfast 2003 in March 2003. It aired on Mike Kara Presents in May 2003. The Darien Lions have requested coverage of their Candy Day 2003 and also their Halloween Party 2003 (To be aired in October 2004 on Mike Kara Spooky Halloween Spector - Tacular 2004, in order to promote the party that month). I am more than happy to honor this request. They are a great organization and they do terrific work, especially with helping the seeing and hearing impaired. Check out Their Candy Day in August 2004 on Mike Kara Presents...

Scotty Brink
From
Real Oldies
1690
Chicago
Stops By
on
Mike Kara Presents...

Scotty Brink can pick and sing, too.

In fact, that’s what led him into radio.  In his early teens, Scotty, who was then known as Don, spent his weekends fronting with his own band, playing that “upstart rock and roll stuff” as well as anything else necessary to get gigs.

Then, at 16, he auditioned for a part-time announcing job at WWPA, one of the four radio stations in his hometown of Williamsport, Pa.  He got the job.  A year later, as a high school senior, he moved into a full-time position, going to work when school closed and staying on the air until midnight.  He still worked with his band on weekends.

Scotty got his first big time break when he was just 19.   “I thought it was a friend of mine trying to put me on,” says Brink of the phone call he received offering him a shot a Philadelphia’s legendary WIBG in 1961.  He spent four years there doing the all-night show.

In 1965, he moved on to Cleveland’s KYW doing afternoons.  A young man who billed himself as “The World’s Handsomest Disc Jockey” followed him on the air at KYW.   His name was Jerry G. Bishop.  “The radio business is truly a small world”, says Scotty.

KYW proved to be a short stop in his career.  The station changed ownership and Brink trucked west.

Scotty was “drafted” by a Southern California station that was revolutionizing Top 40 radio: RKO Radio’s KHJ/Los Angeles. It was a dream job, says Brink, and it might have lasted forever except he got drafted again. This time it was Uncle Sam.  “I went from being a pampered young disc jockey to a private in the army,” Brink recalls.  “I was about to learn about humility.”

In 1968, back from Vietnam and out of the Army, Brink returned to RKO when he joined WOR/FM in New York under the pseudonym J.J. Jordan.   After a few months, KHJ called him back to Los Angeles.  Next, in the spring of 1970, he made a move to WCFL where he did the afternoon show. “I was thrilled to be in Chicago,” he says. While he was at CFL, he began chumming around with his direct WLS afternoon competitor, Larry Lujak.  It wasn’t very long until the phone rang; it was the Big 89/WLS calling.  Scotty moved up to the Stone Container building, replacing Lujak in the afternoon.  That was when Larry moved to mornings.

By 1972 Brink was ready to program his own radio station and after trying out some ideas at KELP/El Paso (think farm club) his former employer RKO Radio called him back to the majors and gave him the reins of WRKO/Boston. “The very first song I added was Stairway to Heaven,” he says. “ It doesn’t sound like a big deal today but back then, a song that long had never been played on a major AM station.”

1977 found Brink back on the air, teaming up with comedian/actor Richard Belzer (Homicide/Law and Order SVU) as The Brink and Belzer Show on New York City’s WNBC.  “I really enjoyed the partnership,” says Belzer. “I was amazed by Scotty’s encyclopedic knowledge of music.”

During the 80s, family took precedent and Brink moved to Nashville, where he bought a small recording studio and pursued a life long dream of producing music.

The 90’s found Scotty back into fulltime radio.   He was headquartered in Seattle as Vice President of Programming for New Northwest Broadcasters – a group of 43 stations from Oregon to Alaska. Today Scotty Brink runs his own recording studio

In his non-studio time, Scotty, an avid hiker, heads for the wilderness and treks miles into the back county.  He also runs 4-5 miles a day.

And, yes, sometimes he still picks and sings.

Mike Kara Presents.....

"
The Loop"  97.9FM WLUP - Chicago Premire On-Air Host Cara Carriveau and Myself.

WLUP - "The Loop" in Chicago is where Chicago Rocks. It has been rockin Chicago for over 25 Years and it one of the last places radio listeners can find real good Rock N Roll. While The Loop has a big selection of Classic Rock, it also plays the Rock N Roll songs currently released. So the Loop separates itself from the typical Classic Rock station, in that it plays all types of Rock and all time periods in the world of Rock. It may play a Who song from the 60's and then play a Nickleback song from the 90's and then a AC/DC song from the 80's. The playlist is very diverse. The Loop plays all types of Rock - Classic Rock, Ballad Rock, Monster Rock, Southern Rock, Light Metal, Light Thrash, and more. The Loop besides providing Loyal Loopers their daily dose of Rock, also has a great line-up of radio hosts, cool contests, and awesome promotions. The Loop has a fully staffed promotions department and does many remote broadcasts at just about anywhere; Car dealerships, Parades, Bowling Alleys, Restaurants, Grand Openings of a variety of Businesses and much more. They have many contests that listeners can get involved with. The Loop also has a special request show, called - "The Rock N Roll Diner" - hosted by weekday mid-day Host Cara Carriveau, where Loopers can call in their requests.

Join us as we take a tour of The Loop 97.9 WLUP in Chicago;  way up in the John Hancock Building. I had a chance to speak with two of their premier Radio Hosts - Cara Carriveau and Seaver. I also spoke with Program Director Bill Klaproth and Promotion Manager Tommy King.

Special Thanks to Assistant Promotion Manager of The Loop WLUP 97.9 - AJ Cox for coordinating and setting up all of this!!! I really appreciate it!!! The Loop Rocks!!!

The Legendary

Rock N Roll

Band

"The Five Americans"

Featuring Lead Guitarist/Lead Vocalist

Mike Rabon

Is

Featured

On

Mike Kara Presents...

The Five Americans first met in Durant, Oklahoma at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1962. Under the leadership of Mike Rabon, they formed a group called the Mutineers. They played local beer joints and various frat dances until the summer of 1964. Mike suggested that they go to Dallas and try and make enough money to pay for tuition for the following fall semester. They achieved some local notoriety in a dive called the Pirate's Nook. There they were "discovered" by a local label called Abnak Records. John Abdnor, president of the label, took them under his wing and provided them the resources to write and practice original songs.

In the summer of '65, they released an original song entitled "I See The Light". The song went to the top twenty in Billboard Magazine and paved the way for a string of hits by the five. "I See The Light" was followed by "Evol-Not Love" which also charted in the top 40 nationwide. Then came the biggest hit of all by the five..."Western Union". This song, which was inspired by a Western Union telegram sign, went on to become number six in Billboard (number 3 in Cashbox) and sold in excess of one million records.

"Western Union" was followed by a less gimmicky and more melodic song entitled "Sound Of Love" which charted in the top 40 as well. Then bowing to pressure from DJ's the world over to write another "communication" song, they followed "Western Union" with "Zip Code" which also went top 40. After releasing "7:30 Guided Tour", an excellent song written by Robin Brians of Tyler, Texas which only made it to 96 in billboard, they broke up in 1969, and each went his own way.

In only 5 short years, The Five Americans where the first to achieve what no other group in Texas had done -- sell millions of singles and albums.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Lead Vocalist and Lead Guitarist of The Five Americans - Mike Rabon. He was nice enough to invite us to his Home in Hugo, Oklahoma, right around the Oklahoma - Texas Border. We were just 20 miles form where the Band actually formed - in Durant, Oklahoma.

Mike is currently a Computer Science Teacher at Hugo High School, but still remembers and treasures his time with The Five Americans

The Woodridge Jubilee

With The Honorable William F. Murphy -
Mayor Of The Great Village Of Woodridge, Illinois
(My Hometown) At The Woodridge Jubilee

The Woodridge Jubilee is The Village of Woodridge’s Big Festival,
a time to have an awesome party. The Woodridge Jubilee is a five
day celebration with food, entertainment, bingo, carnival rides,
beer, inflatable games, such as a moonwalk, baseball, soccer, football,
etc, and much much more. The Jubilee is an institution in The Great
Village of Woodridge. The Jubilee is almost four or five separate festivals
combined into one. With thirteen scheduled food vendors the Jubilee offers
quite a bit for your taste buds to enjoy. The variety of food is a good
one, with each vendor more or less representing a food choice unique
to the Jubilee. The Jubilee features seven bands over a four day period.
The variety of musical entertainment is a good one. The Ultimate Beatles
tribute Band, American English, is one of The favorites for the Jubilee.
Big John Howell and the born To Boogie Band closed out The Musical
entertainment on Saturday. Big John Howell is an on-air Host for
US99 in Chicago. Big John Howell Born To Boogie Band is simply
a four-piece Country Band that really Rocks. Also at The Jubilee was
an organization fair. This fair was held on Saturday between 11am
and 5pm, right on the Jubilee site. This gave both Non-Profit
Organizations, as well as Commercial Businesses a chance to spread
their message. Commercial Businesses were required to pay a
$60 registration fee, Non-Profit Organizations, were given a t
able for free. The Carnival was the only event that actually ran the
entire five day duration. Everything else, including, The Food,
The Beer, The Entertainment and Bingo was just Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday. The Carnival offers Jubilee Goers tons and tons of
rides and games. Plus The Carnival has it’s own traditional menu
of treats and goodies. Jubilee Goers could purchase a ride Mega
Pass for just $35 dollars, that would let them ride unlimited the
whole Jubilee duration (All Five Days).Although an absolutely
fantastic deal ; Of course if I spent that much on something like
that, I would be riding non-stop from Wednesday Morning until
Sunday Evening. There was so much there at The Jubilee that I
couldn’t fit it all in his kinda forum. I suggest downloading this
segment and seeing for yourself. Heed this warning, it is a l
arge download, as many as six hours it would take to download
this 29 minute presentation. But, it is worth it.

The Woodridge is a joint venture between both the Village of
Woodridge and The Woodridge Park District. However the Woodridge
Park District does more of the leg work and planning of the Jubilee
itself, while The Village of Woodridge provides for the Jubilee finically.

This Year’s Jubilee was very special. Besides taking place in July
instead of the traditional Father’s day weekend in June, it celebrated
The village of Woodridge’s 45th Anniversary and The Woodridge Park
District’s 35th Anniversary. There was a Jubilee Parade this year to
commemorate the festivities and a special Ceremony, both Saturday

Interviews includes -

Woodridge - Mayor William F. Murphy

United States Congresswoman of 13th District in Illinois Judy Biggert

Woodridge Police Chief - Steve Herron

Woodridge Police Crime Prevention Officer - Kevin Lindblom

Woodridge Police K-9 Officer Bob Chrusciel

The Illinois Saint
Andrew Society
Scottish Home Picnic

It is was a simply beautiful Saturday in August.
Definitely an appropriate setting for a picnic. But this
picnic is unlike any other. It celebrates our Scottish Heritage
in a big way, with Children’s games, Crafts, Pony Rides,
Musical Entertainment and much more. It’s The 84th Annual
Saint Andrew Society Scottish Home Picnic. The location
of this Picnic is very special too. The Scottish Home is a
full service Elderly Care Facility, various types of care.
From simply an apartment to assisted living to a full

celebrates our Scottish Pride and Rich Scottish
Heritage. The Scottish Home is owned operated
by The Illinois Saint Andrew Society, a non-for profit

the year, besides this Picnic, including The Highland Games
 in June, The

their website at
http://www.chicago-scots.org. The Illinois

Scottish Arts & Culture

Another feature at The Picnic at The Picnic was the
awesome music they had. One highlight was a authentic
Scottish Presentation From The Celtic Band Exorna

Another feature at The Picnic was the Antique Treasures
Sale. These items go beyond just a white elephant sale.
Many of these items are donated by residents, staff of
The Scottish Home and other various volunteers. The items
are priced fairly and many of the items do not severe
from much wear. Many of the items are treasures, such
as collectible stuffed animlas, LP Record’s and Original
First Edition Books, both Hardback and Paperback.

Something new for The Picnic was the addition of The
Banjo Buddies Dixieland Trio. While not necessarily
Scottish Music, The Banjo Buddies bring a new dimension
To The Picnic, pleasing to the guests, but also the
residents of The Scottish Home

There was children’s Activities such as The Moonwalk,
Pony Rides, Mini Golf,a Clown named Rudi Kazoodi
roaming the grounds and Children’s Craft.

There was also a bake sale and bingo available.

Residents for The Scottish home had the opportunity
to enjoy the Picnic as well, no matter what their
condition was. It was nice to see enjoy one having
 a good time.

One of two Main Events for The Scottish picnic was
the Highland Dancing. The presentation was put on
The Thistle and Heather Highland Dancers

There was a raffle and plenty of yummy Scottish treats,
such as Meat Pies, Bridies and Sausage Rolls

The Grand Finale and Highlight Primo was a
beyond words presentation from The Caledona
Pipe Band Performance.

If you like what you see, we encourage you to come on
out to Next Year’s Illinois Saint Andrew Society’s Scottish
Home Picnic, it is coming up soon. The Illinois Saint Andrew
Society main mission is the preservation of
the Scottish Culture. Please help share in that.

A. The files are in Real Video format.

Q. I don't have Real Video on my Computer, Now What???

A. No Problem. You can download a free Player, by visiting the friendly folks at Real Video by going to http://www.real.com They got a good one out now, RealPlayer Version 10.0, pretty nice with a lot of bells and whistles. Not a bad deal for free.

A. Well, I have a deal for you. For limited time (meaning from now until I Die) you can download segments absolutely free?

Q. Come on!!, nothing is really free?

A. Well actually funding will come from underwriters. More or less sponsors. Their called Underwriters in The Public Access Television game. Businesses and/or Organizations will provide funding for the operation of the website in exchange for promotion of their Business or Organization.

Q. Hi, I have a Business or I am a President of Organization and I would like to Underwrite this page, tell me more?

A. Great!! First you can contact Myself by e-mailing Me at mikekarapresents@msn.com and put Request More Information on Underwriting Opportunities For The Mike Kara Presents Video Website in the subject line. Rates are $30 for each video presentation or 5 for $100 per Year. Full Page Sponsorship is $200 per Year. Each sponsored video presentation, includes a 30 second ad for your business or organization at the beginning of the presentation. We will air your all-ready made spot or make one for you. Think about it. Have your message run before a segment every single time someone views one of my segments, think about it, $30 per year for literally 100's of exposures.

Q. Why are there only certain segments on the page and not every segment ever edited for Mike Kara Presents???

A. That's a very good question!!! Because of legal issues and copyrighted material, posting certain segments in their fully edited form, may violate copyright laws. Concerts are a big issue when wanting to post video online. Many times there are alot of people who take the time to write and produce this music and sometimes We forget those people by not giving them a say. But for the most part everyone involved has been really good when it comes to broadcasting their segments on the internet. Because it is mainly for their own benefit. It gives them a much larger viewing audience (Elmhurst System vs The World) The potential of Mike Kara Presents is not limited by geography. Yes, My Home is Chicagoland and My Hometown is Woodridge, Illinois. But no, I will not limit the content and potential of Mike Kara Presents just to a certain area.
